What Is an iTOVi Scan? A Plain-English Explanation
Twenty-five minutes, a handheld device, and a shortlist instead of a wall of bottles you are guessing between.
If you have ever stood in front of a shelf of essential oils and wellness products with no idea where to begin, you have run into the actual problem an iTOVi scan is trying to solve. Not "which product is best" — there is no such thing — but "where do I start, given this specific body, today."
What the device does
iTOVi is a small handheld device that you hold, or that is held against your skin, for a short reading. It measures galvanic skin response — the same underlying principle used in a range of biofeedback tools. Galvanic skin response is a measure of how easily a tiny electrical current passes across the surface of your skin, and it shifts with things like moisture, temperature and autonomic nervous system activity.
The device takes a series of these readings while cycling through a database of wellness products. It records how your skin's response changes across the sequence, and generates a report ranking which items produced the most notable shifts.
The output is a personalised report: a shortlist of products, usually with suggested uses.
What the scan is not
This part matters, and we would rather say it clearly than have you find out afterwards.
- It is not a medical test. It does not diagnose anything, screen for anything, or measure a nutrient level, hormone, allergy or deficiency.
- It is not a substitute for a doctor. If something is wrong, see one. An iTOVi report is not a second opinion.
- It is not a lab-validated instrument. Galvanic skin response is a real, measurable phenomenon; the interpretation layer that maps those readings onto specific products is a proprietary system, not established clinical science.
We think it is worth being straightforward about that. Plenty of people find the scan genuinely useful, and it does not need to be oversold to be worth twenty-five minutes.
Who actually gets value from it
In practice, the people who walk out happiest tend to fall into a few groups:
The overwhelmed beginner. You are curious about essential oils and wellness products, you have read enough conflicting things online to be paralysed, and you would like somebody to hand you three things to try instead of thirty.
The plateaued user. You already use a handful of products, you have used the same handful for two years, and you are curious whether there is something you have never thought to try.
The gift-buyer. Genuinely — this comes up. A scan is a low-commitment way to find out what somebody might actually use.
The person who wants a starting point, not an answer. This is the healthiest frame. Treat the report as a shortlist to experiment with, not a prescription to follow.
What a session looks like
The scan itself is about twenty-five minutes at our Houghton location, and it is entirely non-invasive — nothing pierces the skin, nothing is ingested, and you stay fully clothed.
- A short conversation. What brought you in, what you are already using, anything you are trying to address.
- The reading. You hold the device or it is held to your skin while it cycles through its sequence. Most of this time you are just sitting comfortably.
- The report. Your results come back as a ranked list.
- Making sense of it. The valuable part. Which two or three items are worth actually trying, how to use them, and what to notice over the next few weeks.
How to get the most out of it
- Pick two or three items, not ten. If you change everything at once you learn nothing.
- Give it a few weeks. Wellness products are not a same-day effect.
- Write down what you notice. Sleep, energy, mood, whatever you were hoping to shift. Memory is unreliable.
- Rescan later, not immediately. A scan a few months apart is more interesting than two in a week.

Used the right way, an iTOVi scan is a decent answer to a real problem: too much choice and no obvious place to begin. Used the wrong way — as a diagnosis, or as a reason to skip a doctor — it is not doing you any favours. The difference is entirely in how you hold it.
Frequently asked questions
No. The scan is completely non-invasive — nothing pierces the skin and nothing is ingested. You remain fully clothed and most of the session is spent sitting comfortably while the device takes its readings.
The session is about 25 minutes at our Houghton location, which includes a short intake conversation, the scan itself, and time to go through the resulting report.
No. An iTOVi scan is not a medical device and does not diagnose, screen for, or treat any condition. It measures galvanic skin response and produces personalised wellness product suggestions. Anything you are actually worried about should go to a physician.
Very little. Arrive hydrated, avoid heavy lotion on your hands right beforehand, and bring a list of anything you are currently using so the conversation afterwards is more useful.
